Veronika Akhmetchina has been taught classical music from an early age. At the age of 6 she started playing the violin and a year later she started singing in a children's choir at the local music school. Conductor and singer Anouk Muis soon recognized that Veronika was a talented and musical child, and on her advice Veronika auditioned at Vocaal Talent Netherlands (Nationale koren), where she sang from the age of 9 in the National children's choir and later in the National Women's Youth Choir.
After many years full of passion and dedication, with beautiful projects led by conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, John Eliot Gardiner, Iván Fischer, Markus Stenz and many others on stages such as Het Concertgebouw, De Doelen, Berliner Philharmoniker, De Munt and Kölner Philharmonie, Veronika chose to study classical singing at the HKU Utrecht Conservatory.
In November 2019 Veronika graduated under the guidance of soprano Selma Harkink. Since March 2021 Veronika has vocal coaching with Henny Diemer. Currently, Veronika is coached by Henny Diemer, Margriet van Reisen and Boudewijn Janssen.
Veronika has a great passion for theatre. She seeks ways of expression and telling stories through singing, performing and creating.
Over the years Veronika has sang in various productions as a soloist, ensemble and chorus singer. Last season (23/24) she sang with Kika Sprangers (Dochter), Nederlandse Reisopera (role of Seraphische Stimme in Das Wunder der Heliane), at the Gaudeamus Festival (STABAT MATER DECONSTRUCTED, Mees Vervuurt), in the documentary Human Forever (Teun Toebes, Jonathan de Jong) and in other concerts and projects. Also, Veronika made her debut at Concertgebouw Amsterdam (June 2024) and sang the roles Sophie (The Master's Voice, July 2024) and of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni, August 2024).
Highlights of season 2024/2025 include performing her own show 'Wat ik laatst las', performing wonderful contemporary and newly-written music by Jan-Peter de Graaff and premiering the role of Goll in a newly-written opera 'Lulu'.
